One Blep Away

I thought I’d do something more relaxing for a change and have a quick doodle stop. Here’s a charcoal portrait that I did today on my easel, it was a lot of fun to work on it. I wish I’d have done it on a tinted paper instead of white, that would’ve helped a lot to make the dalmatian stand out.

I did learn a lot about my paper though; apparently it can’t take very much charcoal and colour before it simply gives up and becomes unusable. I think I’ll need a thicker, more grainy paper that holds on to charcoal better for my next pieces.

Time: This one took about 3 or 4 hours, working on and off. It’s a little rushed so the anatomy isn’t quite what I’d like it to be.

Medium: Charcoal, white charcoal, and coloured pencil for the detail colours though it didn’t stick very well to the paper I was using.
